The artist
Practice and perspective
Gaëlle Hintzy-Marcel is a French sculptor living in New York. Her practice has developed through experience of living in France, Indonesia, Russia, India and the United States. These encounters with different places and cultures inform an interest in connection, resilience and the unstable balances of everyday life. She works across figurative and abstract forms, treating sculpture as a dialogue between materials, the space surrounding them and the person encountering the work.
Her materials include steel, wood, pewter, resin, plaster and textiles. Rather than smoothing away their differences, she uses contrasting weights, surfaces and qualities to create tension and unexpected relationships. Touch, movement, illumination and shadow are important ways into the sculptures. In the White Dot series, a small wooden sphere meets more forceful steel elements; I AM (2), dated 2025, is a modular construction whose white sphere can move along its steel structure. The work gives a concrete form to her interests in renewal and equilibrium. Her official exhibition record includes the Paris solo presentation Équilibres at Galerie Michael Lonsdale in 2025, and appearances at Affordable Art Fair in New York, Boston and Singapore. Her published awards include recognition from the National Association of Women Artists for Concentration in 2023 and The dancers in 2025.
