The artist
Practice and perspective
Tatyana Palchuk, also known as Tatyana Palchuk Rikane, was born in Riga in 1954. She works between the Latvian capital and Iecava, where her house includes a garden and studio. Painting, drawing and composition are central to both her own work and her teaching. Her representational practice brings together people, musical instruments, animals and still-life objects in deliberately structured scenes.
Palchuk studied at the Rozentāls Art School in Riga from 1967 to 1973 and subsequently worked with the academic painter Eduards Kalniņš. Her Artsy biography describes a practice shaped by classical music and detailed realism. On her own website, she emphasizes the importance of composition, emotional response and the Northern Renaissance, alongside a particular interest in white, pearl-grey and golden-ochre tones.
Her exhibition history includes solo presentations at Bauska Museum and Iecava Culture Hall in 2022. Studio 54 Fine Art’s Artnet listing records anniversary exhibitions at Riga’s Rietumu Banka Exhibition Hall and Valmiera Museum in 2024. The gallery also presents Stroll in the Oak Grove, a 2021 oil on linen that gathers riders, horses and dogs beneath autumn trees, reflecting her sustained interest in relationships between human activity and nature.
